Because politics continues to be the inescapable topic for many, it is only appropriate to share this immensely cynical anthem from Randy Newman’s brilliant Sail Away. Yes, before he was parodied in Family Guy or writing soundtracks for your favorite Disney/Pixar movie, Newman made a living writing pointed, topical anti-rock songs that dealt with everything from slavery (“Sail Away”), to institutionalized racism and ignorance on “Rednecks.” Here, he offers a simple solution for all of America’s problems– it may feel a bit too close for comfort even some 40+ years later, but outstanding parody has a very long shelf life.
