No. 8 – Syro by Aphex Twin
His first album in 14 years, Syro is a particularly interesting entry in music this year considering the completely different marketplace for electronic music. When Aphex Twin first came into popularity in the early 90’s, his albums were largely groundbreaking and he himself was viewed as a leader at the forefront of that particular wave. Now, with the electronic landscape largely dominated by dubstep, Syro is every bit of fresh air that Aphex Twin delivered when he first came into the fray. An album densely packed with complex textures and layers, Syro, despite the purposefully obtuse titles, is very easy to dive into and enjoy.
