No. 15 – Piñata by Freddie Gibbs & Madlib
Born and raised in Gary, Indiana, Freddie Gibbs makes for a very interesting match compared to Madlib’s organically soulful production. Gibbs’ nimble lyricism and detailed storytelling of being surrounded by such violence and poverty makes for a particularly impactful album that rises far beyond the stereotypical celebration of drugs, guns and women. A supremely talented rapper, Gibbs elevates his game ten-fold on this album.
